Schlock Podcast – Episode 8
Podcast: Play in new window | Download
November is an odd month – sitting somewhere between the start of Autumn (if you’re lucky enough to live in a land enjoying the joys of the season – we don’t) and the kick off to Winter Solstice Celebrations. And, for some reason, it’s the month for internet-based challenges– National Beard Month, Movember, The 30 Characters Challenge– and, of course, National Novel Writing Month, better known as NaNoWriMo. Four brave Schlockers attempted the Challenge of Novels, and only three made it out with their sanity intact.
The last one was reduced to writing podcast show notes instead! Cue rimshot.
Thus, NaNoWriMo gets podcast-based attention, as the three survivors discuss their experiences of HORROR. Hard boiled future private dick Sam Phelps is back in his second audio-drama instalment, and the end of the world (in fiction, natch) gets discussed.
Finally, there’s also original music from friend of Schlock Danjeli and his latest album, KontroNatura, and a selection of flash fiction from the Schlock Archive. Enjoy!
Taking part are the Schlock Team – Peter Farrugia, Bettina Borg Cardona, Teodor Reljic, Michael Vella and Marco Attard.

Discussions
NaNoWriMo – aka National Novel Writing Month – gets discussed by Pete, Bettina and Teodor. Did they actually get anywhere close to the 50,000 words the challenge entails, or was all abandoned due to plot complications? If you have taken part in NaNoWriMo – and managed (or not) to pull it off, do let us know in the Comments! - 00:00:43
The End of the World – fun place to be, right? Mike and Marco start off discussing apocalyptic fiction with Cormac McCarthy’s The Road, before moving to other favourites in the genre – including The Road Warrior and, of course, the seminal Fist of the North Star. Whatever you do in the post-apocalyptic wasteland, don’t piss off the large solitary man with the ability to blow people’s heads off with a touch. – 00:19:13
Music
Novembru by Danjeli (from KontroNatura) - 00:16:28
Our thanks go to Thom Cuschieri for his recording know-how and equipment (and also his beautifully BBC voice – that’s him introducing ever podcast!) and Chris Galea for putting everything together, tweaking the audio and creating the soundscapes and sound effects behind each flash and the audio drama.
Musicians! We want your musics! Apply through this post or our email address.
Don’t forget you can subscribe to the Schlock podcast via iTunes, where you can also leave us nice review and rating over there. Actually, it’d be great if you do. Thanks for listening, and our dulcet tones will be back in, oh, a month or so. Until then, stay together, stay alive, be good people.
